Dear Katherine,
I give you permission to slow down in your fifties.
I give you permission to tune in to your body, to honour its needs and to pay attention to its energy levels.
I give you permission to rest when you feel tired, to say ‘No’ when you need space.
I give you permission to create a rhythm, in life and in work, that serves you, without apology and without shame.
I give you permission to be who you are today, at 53, and to let go of trying to be someone else.
You have done so much, over so many years.
You have worked so hard. You have run so fast.
You have climbed so high, and fallen low too, only to haul yourself back up again.
You can take it easier now, dear one. You don’t have to battle and strive.
You are safe. I am here for you.
I will hold you, comfort you, catch you if you fall.
You know that worry you carry that you’ll end up sleeping on the streets if you stop hustling for a moment?
Well, you can let that go.
That fear took root in childhood and that’s where it belongs. In your past.
I invite you to trust that your future is secure and to cocoon yourself in the peace that brings.
Let go of compare and despair
You can kick back a bit now, Katherine. Do things your way, at your pace.
It’s OK not to have the same energy or drive as your younger self, or as the 20-something, 30-something or 40-something entrepreneur or writer or teacher you often compare yourself to and, at times, want to emulate.
I encourage you to let go of comparing because it can lead to despairing.
You do you.
That is more than enough. You are enough.
Focus on what truly matters and let go of the rest.
And the more you understand and honour the unique needs of your body, mind, soul and spirit at this age and stage of life, the more you will blossom and flourish and step into the woman you are meant to be, today.
Miracles will come from this new way of being.
Believe me, they will.
No more ‘headless chicken’
You can throw out the ‘headless chicken’ outfit that you’ve worn for much of your life, dashing about, creating fires, putting them out.
That look is so passé.
It doesn’t suit you anymore. It doesn’t serve you.
Grounded, that’s how you want to be.
Rooted, like the sturdiest of trees.
Solid. Connected. Nurtured and nourished.
This is how you’ll unleash your gifts.
This is how you’ll free your creativity.
Switch off the noise.
Cherish the quiet.
Soak up the stillness.
Listen to the wise voice inside.
And, most of all, write.
Write your heart.
Writing is a gift. Writing is your gift. Writing is the essence of who are you.
Remove the blocks. Step around the obstacles. Walk through the fears.
And weave magic with your words.
Very soothing…and a wonderful reminder . Thank you 🙏
That all resonated with me. Slow living - there’s a beauty in it.
Thank you for this 🙏
